NHPC organizes special session on Cyber Security

JAMMU, Oct 18: Y.K. Chaubey, CMD, NHPC, R.P. Goyal, Director (Finance), NHPC, Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects), NHPC, Maj. Gen. Manjeet Singh, Sena Medal, Jt. Secretary (Cyber), National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) during special session on Cyber Security today at Corporate Office, Faridabad.
NHPC, India's premier hydropower company is observing October 2022 as National Cyber Security Awareness Month. In this regard, a special awareness session on cyber security was organized in the august presence of Y.K. Chaubey, CMD, NHPC. The session was taken by Maj. Gen. Manjeet Singh, Sena Medal, Jt. Secretary (Cyber), National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). R.P. Goyal, Director (Finance), NHPC and Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects), NHPC along with senior officials of NHPC were present on the occasion. Heads of NHPC Regional offices, Power Stations, Projects and other NHPC officials also attended the session through video conference.
Specking on the occasion, Y.K. Chaubey, CMD, NHPC pressed upon the need of heightened vigil against emerging cyber challenges to protect critical Power generating equipments which are also a critical information infrastructure of the nation.
During the session, Maj. Gen. Manjeet Singh emphasized upon the emerging challenges in keeping cyberspace secured and various Government of India initiatives in protecting sovereign cyber space. He appreciated NHPC power stations for round the clock power generation, various measures taken by NHPC to strengthen the cyber security posture in the organisation and the lead role being played by NHPC as CERT-Hydro in implementing cyber security measures in hydro utilities.
R.P. Goyal, Director (Finance) said that cyber security incidents are rising exponentially and we must be outmost vigil in our work to avoid cyber security breach.
Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects) addressed about some of the recent Cyber attacks and mentioned that country is losing millions of moneys on cyber-attack from disruption in business activity. He also mentioned that ensuring cybersecurity of IT and OT infrastructure is our collective responsibility.
