SFD organises Jan Abhiyan activities at village Jatwal

KATHUA, Oct 19: The Department of Social Forestry is carrying out a series of activities in different Panchayats of the UT of J&K, under Jan Abhiyan launched by the government from October 15, 2022. In this connection, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Director, Department of Social Forestry, J&K, Roshan Jaggi, and others visited Jatwal Panchayat of Tehsil Ghagwal and held an elaborate interaction with the Village Panchayat Plantation Committees (VPPCs)/ PRI members of Panchayats, viz., Jatwal, Nonath, Sarara, Sangwali, Dhalli, including the DDC member, Suresh Kumar and BDC Chairperson, Vijay Sharma.
An awareness-cum-plantation drive was carried out in the premises of Government Primary School, Jatwal that was inaugurated with ceremonial planting of a Peepal tree sapling by Roshan Jaggi, in the school premises.
Speaking on the occasion, Roshan Jaggi said that during Jan Abhiyan (October 15 to October 27, 2022), the Social Forestry Department is taking up plantation and other activities across Gram Panchayats.
The Pr. CCF made the participants aware about the role of Social Forestry Department in improving the environment and socio-economic condition of farmers. He encouraged them to grow improved clones of Eucalyptus and Poplar for better economic returns.
During the interaction session in the Panchayat Ghar Jatwal, the prominent speakers including the Chairpersons of the VPPCs projected different demands related to Social Forestry Department and the Director issued instant directions to the officers of the Department to take up the works on priority as per the mandate of the Department. A free plant distribution camp was also organized and locals were provided different species of ornamental, medicinal and timber yielding plants along with awareness material about different schemes and role of social forestry and medicinally & commercially important plants.
