| Congress counsels NC, BJP to give up ‘day dreaming’ | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 18: Ridiculing the tall claims of the National Conference that it would form the government in Jammu and Kashmir on its own and BJP claiming that her party would be a deciding factor in the formation of the government, congress veteran and former MP Janak Raj Gupta described it as a ‘wishful thinking’ and counseled both the parties to give up ‘day dreaming’. Addressing series of election rallies at Dablad, Balachak and R S Pura today to muster support for the party candidates, Gupta said that the way both are claiming to form the government indicate that there is some secret understanding between the two. Describing it as a mere wishful thinking, the congress leader asserted that none other than congress party would form a stable government in the state. He said that the massive turn out of voters is a clear indication that voters are disillusioned with the divisive politics and want to stable and people-friendly congress government. Referring to BJP claim of being a deciding factor in government formation, Gupta said that if the present indication are any guide it would be difficult for the party (BJP) even t retain the lone seat it had won in 2002 elections what to speak of a major deciding factor in government formation. ‘Fed up with the divisive policies and double speak of the aprty and its leaders’, the congress leader said that while the local leaders are silent about the abrogation of article 370 the central leadership is harping on the abrogation of this article. Article 370, providing special status to Jammu and Kashmir, state would continue to remain in force, come what may, Gupta thundered and observed that by raking up this issue time and again by the BJP is nothing but a political gimmick to hoodwink the innocent electorate. Asserting that BJP would meet its waterloo in Jammu as well, as the people here are determined to teach this party a lesson by inflicting on it a crushing defeat and said that ‘if they believe that the BJP would become a force to reckon with in Jammu they are living in a fool’s paradise’. He maintained that it congress party alone that could form the government as people are fully satisfied with its performance during the last two and a half year’s rule. Former Minister, B R Kunal who also spoke at these meetings appealed the people to vote in favour of congress party and its candidates keeping in view its performance during the last 32 months. He claimed that the congress led government had been instrumental in bringing about sea change on the development front in the state adding that result of the positive and pro-friendly policies and massive infrastructure developments registered in the state are quite visible on the ground.’ Those criticizing the congress led government should ponder over as to what they gave to the people during their successive rule spanning over nearly three decades’, he said and observed that had the previous governments given little more attention for the development of the state and its infrastructure the state would not have been lagging behind the other states of the country. Making a forceful appeal to the electorates, Kundal warned the people not to come under the influence of parties and person who are again trying to play with their sentiments by dividing them in the name of religion and region by raising emotive slogans. He urged the electorate to get united under the banner of congress party which has mass base all over the country as also in Jammu and Kashmir and is committed for the welfare of all, irrespective of caste, creed, color, region or religion. ‘Your vote for congress party would be vote for stability, prosperity for all the peace loving people of the state’, he maintained. Among others, who also addressed these gatherings included Arvinder Singh Micky, Babu Hans Raj, Namrata Sharma and Bansi Lal Gupta, Corporator, aijaz Ahmed Wani (Banihali), Kirtan Singh, Anoop Khajuria, Ved Prakash Bhagat, Varinder Mahajan (tony), Narinder Sharma, Anuradha Sharma, and Gudoo Ji.
