Jammu, Oct 23: The people of village Draba and its adjoining area today held a strong protest against PHE department as well as against the government and local administration for their failure in providing the drinking water to them even during ongoing festival season.
As per the details available with Early Times, the angry people block Kishtwar-Padder road and raised slogans against PHE department demanding immediate restoration of the snapped water supply.
The angry protesters told Early Times that the officials of PHE department had snapped the water supplies of the area on the pretext to get their water connections registered under Jal Jeevan Mission.
“We had been asked to submit GRs of water connection- We have no knowledge about this thing and they (Jal Shakti department) had never aware us about all these formalities” said the angry villagers added that they are ready to get their water supply connections registered, but instead of reaching out to the people- the officials of the department snapped water supply connections to the village as a result of which they are facing lot of problem.
“We left with no other option other then to comes on road- Government and administration should immediately intervened and get the water supply restored to the affected areas” said a women protestors added that they will intensified the protest in case administration and Government fail to provide drinking water to them.
Another women told the Early Times that their animals including cows are starving due to non availability of water at home.
“We have to take our animals to far off places away from home so that they can drink water - But from where we get water to give them during evening hours- We collected rain water to meet the demands of our animals” said another woman.
The angry women said that it is unfair on part of the Jal Shakti department that a local official snapped the water supply to their village without any reason as a result of which the are suffering and had to cover long distances to fetch drinking water for Cooking food and feed animals at home.
“Tomorrow is a Dipawali and we don’t have water at home to drink or take bath - isn’t it a failure on part of the government and administration that we people were left in lurch to fetch drinking water at the time whole country is celebrating Dipawali festival” said the angry protesters who seek immediate attention of the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar in this regard and requested for early restoration of water supply to their houses.
