JKPF celebrates Accession day of J&K by holding function at Trikuta Nagar

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 25: The day of 26th October 1947 is a historic and one of the landmark days in the history of Jammu & Kashmir. It is on this day, that the Instrument of accession was executed by Maharaja Harisingh for the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir to accede to the rest of India. The accession was accepted by the then Governor General Lord Mountbatten.
In order to make the general masses aware of the importance of the Accession Day, especially the youth in particular, a general body meeting was organised for the public with their representatives at Kameshwar Temple (Bharat Mata Mandir) in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu by the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Forum( JKPF) today at 9 am. At the outset, people present in the meeting paid homage to the Late Maharaja Hari Singh ji who signed the Instrument of Accession. Romesh Sabherwal, the President of JKPF, threw light on the magnanimous personality of Maharaja Hari Singh and his patriotism. He laid forth all facts to demolish all myths pertaining to the loss of the territory of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 to Pakistan, which he asserted was not because of the Maharaja but due to many other reasons surrounding the individuals who were ruling in India at that time. Sabherwal was very categorical in stating that the role of Maharaja Hari Singh in the accession with India was significant and meaningful beyond doubts. Since attending the Round Table Conference in London in 1931, his stand was forthright for the complete freedom of India from British empire.
Raghu Mehta, Advocate J&K high court, Member Smvdsb and Vice president of the JKPF gave background into the genealogy of Maharaja Hari Singh and his contributions as the administrator. Mehta enlightened the public about the welfare measurestaken by Maharaja as the ruler of this princely state including abolition of the child Marriage, Sati pratha as well as promoting free primary education and opening of the massive number of schools, both for boys and the girls. Raghu Mehta made it pertinent to be noticed that primary education was made compulsory and as such he was a popular administrator. Besides, it was shared with the public, that Maharaja was never interested in joining hands with Pakistan inspite of the mounting pressures from the then Governor General Lord Mountbatten, who was advocating that being a muslim majority state, J&K should annex itself with Pakistan but Maharaja never wanted his public to be part of Muslim dominated Pakistan. In 1947, the then Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh pramukh M S Golwalkar (Guru ji) visited Jammu Kashmir at the request of Sardar Patel on 17th oct and met Maharaja on 18/10/1947 and Guruji advised and convinced Maharaja to accede to Indian dominion as it would be in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Maharaja Hari Singh being a people friendly administrator agreed with the advice of Guru ji and the meeting was arranged bythe presence Pt Prem Nath Dogra and the then Prime Minister of India.
