Kejriwal’s ‘anti-Hindu’ decision triggers uproar
Delhi celebrates Diwali without firecrackers

New Delhi/Ahmedabad, Oct 25: The Aam Admi Party government imposing a ban on crackers on the occasion of Diwali in Delhi evoked a strong reaction from BJP leaders who termed the decision as “anti-Hindu.”
The Delhi government had imposed a complete ban on the production, sale, and use of all types of firecrackers, including green crackers, till January 1, 2023, citing air pollution.
On Sunday, Minister Rai said emissions from firecrackers are extremely dangerous especially for children, women and the elderly.
Launching a direct attack on the Aam Aadmi Party over its decision to impose ban on firecrackers, the BJP accused it of “hurting sentiments of Hindus”. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said, “The Kejriwal government has always worked to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. On the one hand, by banning firecrackers, they work to prevent the celebration of a holy festival like Diwali while their own ministers are making videos of bursting crackers in front of their homes. How long will Kejriwal continue to deceive Delhiites with such anti-Hindu mentality and hurt religious sentiments?”
BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga claimed the Delhi government had earlier banned Chhath puja on the Yamuna riverbank and was now trying to prevent bursting crackers on Diwali.
Meanwhile, Gujarat BJP chief C R Paatil hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal terming the ban over crackers on Diwali as an “anti-religious move" of the government.
Ahead of the Gujarat Assembly polls due later this year, AAP national convener Kejriwal has visited the state multiple times in the recent past to garner support for his party.
Gujarat BJP chief Paatil said, “Today I read some news that the chief minister of Delhi has imposed a ban on firecrackers in Delhi. That brother is trying to come here (for elections in Gujarat). Then how will you burst firecrackers?" “So please recognise such anti-religious people and against firecrackers who stop us from celebrating our festivals," Paatil said.
