| Dilawar underscores role of Engineers in wiping off tears from disaster ravaged people | | | SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 16 - Reminding Engineers of their vital role in restructuring the shattered infrastructure due to disaster in the state, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation, FC, Horticulture and Tourism, Mr Mohammad Dilawar Mir called upon the engineering fraternity to put in all professional expertise and experiences, so that reconstruction programme is accomplished with success and public service department get strengthened to deliver goods to the best interest of the people. Speaking at a seminar on “Role of Engineers in Natural Disaster Mitigation and Management” organized by the Institution of Engineers, J&K State Center in connection with 39th Engineer’s Day-2006, the Minister said that the role of Engineers in building the edifice of public facilities cannot be overlooked. He said, while as an individual’s folly might harm some or few individuals, the folly of an engineer can harm an entire society. He said while sufficient funds and proper planning is the fuel of engine of progress, engineers are the drivers of engines as such it is their honesty and dedication that can translate planning into reality. Earlier, the Minister garlanded the portrait of Late Sir M. Visvesvaraya Bharat Ratna, eminent engineer of the country. Er. Harbhajan Singh presented the welcome address and Er. O. N. Wakhloo presented the vote of thanks. Later in the afternoon a Technical Session was held in which renowned engineers of repute presented their valuable papers.
