Brahmins resent arbitrary membership drive in Pratinidhi Sabha
12/18/2008 9:57:07 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu Dec18- Over two dozen senior members of the Brahman community, hailing from different parts of Jammu district who met here today, expressed their deep concern and anguish over the arbitrary and hush- hush manner in which the new membership of Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha is being conducted, by the incumbent President and team of office bearers of the Sabha.
They expressed total dissatisfaction and dismay over the non transparent and partial conduct of membership enrollment drive. The participants in the meeting complained that copies of membership forms were being issued selectively to the favorites and committed supporters of the present team of office bearers of the Sabha, while the same are denied to those senior and active members of the Sabha, who do not find favour with the present office bearers. No publicity has been given to the membership drive launched by the Sabha and the enrollment of members is wrapped in secrecy. So much so that those senior and active members of the community, who are not in the good books of the present team, are denied copies of membership forms even on demand, under one pretext and the other. No place and timing of distribution of membership form copies is being made public and everything is going on in a hush- hush manner, obviously to manipulate the fresh elections of Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha.
The participants also expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of a six member committee by the President of the Sabha, for supervising the enrolment of members of the Sabha. The members of this committee are non entities and are not known to most of the community members and they are appointed through pick and choose, only to act as tools in the hands of President and the incumbent team of the Sabha. These members of the committee do not have any regular timing and place, from where those desirous of enrolling members can get the copies of membership forms. The community members from Jammu and Kathua districts are totally neglected in respect of issuing of membership form copies. In nutshell only a farce of enrolment of members is being conducted by the incumbent leadership.
The senior community members have demanded that the membership drive should be undertaken in a transparent manner and all the community members desirous of enrolling members should be issued the membership forms copies.
Jagan Nath Sharma, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Sham Lal Raina, Shambu Nath Khajuria, Bhagwan Das Sharma, Sanjay Sharma, Pardeep Sharma, Suresh Sharma, Vimal Sharma, Rakesh Khajuria and Rattan Sharma were among others present in the meeting.
