OBC people deliberately ignored for the last 8 years in J&K: Rattan Lal
NC slams J&K Admin of ignoring OBCs, seeks enhanced reservation quota

Early times REport

JAMMU, Oct 29: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) has slammed the incumbent regime in J&K led by the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for totally ignoring the people belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and demanded the enhancement of the reservation quota for the members of this backward community.
Addressing Party’s OBC Cell Working Committee meeting at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here today, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President NC expressed great anguish over the J&K Administration for its negative attitude towards the OBCS which is evident from the fact that the Govt is not showing the least concern to addressing the pressing issues of this section of the society. He said that it is quite an irony that the OBC children are not being provided any scholarship despite the fact that education is the key to uplift the members of backward class communities.
Pertinent to mention that Abdul Ghani Teli, National Conference OBC Cell Provincial President today called a Working Committee meeting of OBC Cell at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, in which Rattan Lal Gupta was the Chief Guest.
Rattan Lal Gupta recalled that during the National Conference regime in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the OBC Development Board was constituted with the Chief Minister being the Chairman. He asserted that this Board was specially constituted with the sole aim of addressing the issues of OBC people from time to time to ensure their upliftment. Moreover this community was granted 4 per cent reservation to pave the way for the equitable welfare of these people as an effort to bring them at par with the already uplifted and prosperous sections of the society.
The senior NC leader lamented saying “It is most unfortunate that the OBC people continue to be totally ignored for the last 8 years and today there is a dire need to enhance the four percent reservation quota for the OBC community.”
Meanwhile a resolution was introduced in the meeting by Abdul Gani Teli which was unanimously passed by those present in the meeting. The resolution demands that 27 percent reservation as per the Mandal Commission should be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir, one time certificate be issued to OBC community members and last but not the least hostels be constructed for the OBC children in every district of the Union Territory.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary JKNC said that only National Conference will protect the rights of the people of J&K with prime focus on safeguarding the land and jobs rights, which the incumbent government in J&K is trying to snatch away through various clever tactics. He asked people to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah as the National Conference alone can steer Jammu and Kashmir to peace, progress and political stability.
Those who were present in the meeting included Pardeep Bali Sr. leader, Raghvir Singh Manhas District President Jammu Rural A, Th. Yashu Vardhan Singh Addl. Spokesperson Jammu, S. Gurnam Singh Block President Jammu West,Mohd Sharif, Haji Mohd Sharif, Mohd Rafiq, Yashpal Verma, Ashok Kumar, Attaullah, D.D Mehra, Iqbal, Molvi Sageer, Mohd Ishaq, Mohi Ud din, MOhd Sayeed, Mohd Maroof, Mohd Ramzan,Tufail Mohd, Mohd Shabir, Anayatullah, Capt.
