SOTTO J&K organizes Human Organ Donation Mega Awareness Walk

Jammu, Oct 1: To create awareness about the importance of organ donation, State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K started Month-long activities, here on Tuesday.
On the first day, SOTTO J&K organized a Mega Organ Donation awareness walk, Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma Principal and Dean Government Medical College Jammu, flagged off the awareness walk. She was accompanied by Dr Elias Sharma, Nodal Officer, SOTTO J&K and HOD Urology, Super Speciality Hospital Jammu, Dr Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director, SOTTO J&K, Dr. Sanjogita Soodan, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Super Speciality Hospital and SOTTO J&K team
The awareness walk started at 08.30 AM from Maharaja Hari Singh Park Jammu and after passing through Press Club Jammu, via Tawi Bridge 1, Vikram Chowk to Tawi Bridge 2, the walk returned back to Maharaja Hari Singh Park Jammu.
More than 60 Students of various Nursing Colleges along with the faculty participated in the awareness walk. Students encouraged people to donate organs with slogans and quotes written on placards.
Principal Medical College Jammu said that one single organ and tissue donor can save or improve the lives of more than eight people, helping to restore eyesight, damaged tissues or vital functions. Organ transplantation each year gives a renewed chance to thousands of children and adults to live a full and active life.
Dr Elias Sharma, Nodal Officer, SOTTO J&K said that the intention of this walk was to reach out to people and spread the message that they should voluntarily come forward and donate organs.
Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director, SOTTO J&K said that in our country people fighting with end stage disease are eagerly waiting for organ transplant. For this very purpose, SOTTO J&K has decided to organize the month long Organ Donation awareness Mega Campaign which started today with this awareness walk. He thanked participating Nursing Colleges and he also thanked the District Administration, City Police, Traffic Police and Jammu Development Authority for their full hearted Support for this noble cause.
The Nursing Colleges which participated were Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing, Chak Bhalwal; Stephens College of Nursing, Miran Sahib; Galaxy Paramedical College, Sainik Colony; Govt. College of Nursing, Gandhi Nagar; Bee Enn College of Nursing, Chak Bhalwal; Bee Enn Nursing Institute, Chak Bhalwal; Govt. College of Nursing, Gangyal; Acharya Shri Chander College of Nursing Education Sidhra Jammu; Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing, Katra and Baba Gulam Shah Badshah University Nursing College and school of Nursing and Biomedical Sciences Jammu.
