| Azad names all Ex-CMs, paints their progress cards gloomy | | Haryana CM Hooda says Congress party of development | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 18: Seeking a clear mandate for Congress party to change development profile of Jammu and Kashmir, the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad named all his predecessors since 1952 –of course, barring Syed Mir Qasim, Bakshi and Sadiq –and read out their “dismal achievement” record during their respective tenure in office. Aiming to convey to the public that he did more work in two and half years than any Chief Minister did since early 1950s, Azad said, “my short regime was full of unprecedented development, progress, employment, peace and prosperity”. He further added, Congress made impossible look possible and gave hope to the hopeless people of the state who had lost every hope during all previous regimes particularly during the decades of National Conference (NC) rule”. He pointed that development is the key to every success and Congress alone can steer state on the path of development. Azad was addressing a public meeting in Nagrota constituency along with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda who also said that “Congress is the party for development and a party of the common man”. Azad said that his predecessors never focused their attention on the developmental works. He said leaders in the state were getting richer while people are getting poorer. The politicians in the state divided people on the lines of region and religion and exploited them for their own vested interest. He named successive chief ministers including Shiekh Mohammed Abdullah, Dr Farooq Abdullah, GM Shah and Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and targeted them for not implementing Wazir Commission report which recommended setting up of three districts in Jammu and one district in Kashmir. Patting his own back, ‘he said during my term I went ahead and constituted eight more districts ending long pending demand of the people .He listed developmental works in all spheres of life and claimed his government worked tirelessly to improve infrastructure in the state while seeking votes from the people in support of the congress party. Haryana CM Hooda urged voters to support congress party if they wanted all round development of the state they should give clear majority to the congress party. Citing the high turn-out of voters during the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Hooda said people in the state "gave a strong reply" to separatists poll-boycott call. "Hurriyat (Conference) and other groups from Kashmir who were opposing elections in the state have been given strong reply by the public who came out in large number to cast their votes showing faith in secular democracy of the country," Hooda told the public rally. "The people of J&K have totally rejected the Hurriyat's poll boycott call," he said. Coming down heavily on the separatist outfits, Hooda claimed: "even a political party and its leaders have spoken pro-Pakistan language. It was shocking." The Haryana chief minister further said: "the people of the state, who are facing terrorism, have send their reply to those opposing elections that they only believe in democracy, peace and prosperity."
