Hurriyat (G) protests Pope’s blasphemous remarks

Srinagar, September 16: Police here on Saturday foiled an attempt of Hurriyat (G) to take out a protest rally from Ghantaghar to United Nations Observer’s Office Sonawar against the blasphemous remarks made by Pope Bendket.
Details available indicate that dozens of Hurriyat (G) activists led by senior separatist leader Gh Nabi Sumji took out a protest rally and headed for UN Observers Office Sonwar, but the participants of the rally were stopped from marching to Sonawar near Tourist Reception Center Srinagar. However Hurriyat activists resisted and police cancharged them.
Protesting Hurriyat activist numbering around one dozen were taken into preventive custody and lodged in police lock up at Police Station Kothibagh. Those taken into preventive custody include Gh Nabi Sumji, Nisar Ahmed Rather, Peer Hafizullah, Mohd Yousuf Mir, Saleem Zargar, Bashir Ahmed Andrabi, Khalid Fareedi, Habib Hashmir and Mohd Yousuf Bhat. Meanwhile Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani condemned the police action and arrests made in this connection.
