Disaster Management preparedness reviewed in Doda

DODA, Nov 2: Deputy Commissioner Doda, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, who is also the Chairman of District Disaster Management Committee, on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the line departments, Army, CRPF, Police, and SDRF here in his office chamber to review the disaster preparedness in the district.
The DC, while underlining the importance of disaster management, called for collective and coordinated efforts of the stakeholders/ departments to avert/minimise the damages, due to any natural calamity. He directed the officers to devise a foolproof strategy for all the subunits of the district depending upon them- having road connectivity or not.
Assessing the availability of stocks and material required to deal with the disasters, the DC directed the concerned to prepare a list of required modern equipment, to submit the same for grant of funds.
He directed to hold an earthquake mock drill at District headquarters with virtual reach to every panchayat of the district.
He desired that all the stakeholders should be well versed with the disaster plan for its effective execution in the time of need. The identification of locations for setting up relief camps and makeshift helipads in case of any eventuality were also stressed upon. He directed to identify the location suitable for helipads at Subdivision and Tehsil level and submit their geo coordinates.
The line departments were further asked to put up the emergency contact numbers / details outside their offices for the information of the general public.
He further directed the ACD to procure atleast 2 fire extinguishers for each panchayat. He instructed the Ex En Mechanical Division to ensure that the machinery was fitted with GPS. He asked the concerned to install CCTVs at all the bridges over the Chenab in the District.
The meeting was attended by SSP,Abdul Qayoom; ADC, Dr RK Bharti; SE PWD, SE Hydraulics, ACR , ACD, SDM Thathri, SDM Gandoh, SDM Assar, DIO DIPR Doda, DIO NIC, AD FCS&CA Doda, Coy Com 10RR, Ex En JPDCL, Ex En Mechanical Division, Dy. SP SDRF, representative of 159 TA (Dogra) and other concerned officials.
