Institution of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers (IETE), J&K Chapter celebrates its 69th Foundation Day.

Jammu, Nov 2: On this occasion R S Chib, Fellow IETE and former Cabinet Minister (J&K) was the Chief Guest. He congratulated all IETians on the Foundation Day. He also appreciated the relentless efforts of the Jammu Sub Centre in spreading the technology across a wide cross section of student community. While addressing the audience, he laid stress on the skill-based programmes in the colleges in line with the National Skill Development Mission.
Maj Gen SK Sharma, AVSM and Fellow IETE was the main speaker. He dwelled on the theme NEP 2020: A paradigm shift in skill based higher education, challenges, and opportunities. Giving example of Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jammu where the campus placements have been as high as 80% as against the national average of 20%, he stressed on the need to identify skill courses and include in the curriculum. This would make the students job-ready before they complete their college education.
Joy Ganjoo, Chairman IETE, Jammu Sub Centre welcomed all the guests. He said that the IETE was Founded on 2nd November 1953, is the National apex Professional body of Electronics and Telecommunications, Computer Science and IT. It has over 1,25,000 corporate, professional and student members. He gave details of the IETE’s planned activities to promote awareness of electronics and computer technology among the college and university students.
Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Secretary IETE Jammu Sub Centre read out the message received from national President IETE, New Delhi.
Immediate Past Chairman, Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, and Head of Dept of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu, dwelled on the courses and workshops being conducted for the students in the University of Jammuto make them job-ready. He laid stress on the futuristic courses like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data etc.
Prof Rakesh Vaid, FIETE, University of Jammu gave the global connotation of the NEP and talked about benefits of the International Conference he had organized during his tenure as Chairman of the institution.
Dr. Sumeet Gupta, Dean SMVDU,enumerated the good practices being followed in line with the NEP 2020. He also gave the concluding remarks. Others who attended the Foundation Day included Prof. Lalit Sen, Prof Rockey Gupta, Prof Rao, besidesfaculty, PhD scholars and engineering students from University of Jammu. SMVDU, MIET, MBSCET, GCET and YCET.
Finally, Dr. Radhika Khanna, Treasurer Jammu Sub Centre, presented the vote of thanks.
