KVK Samba celebrated "Field Day on Paddy"

SAMBA, Nov 3: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu celebrated Field Day on "Paddy" at village Raghuchak of district Samba on 3rd of November, 2022 under the dynamic leadership of Professor. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and the aegis of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J. More than 40 farmers from village Raguchak of district Samba have actively participated in the programme.
Initially the program was started by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba. He welcomed all the farmers and highlighted the importance of Field Day on Paddy. He explained in detail about the various facilities that are available to the farmers from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He advised the farmers to adopt drum seeder direct sowing procedure, and reduce the production cost and get more income. He emphasized upon the adoption of new technologies of the university for improving their income.
Sr. Scientist Dr. Abhay Kumar Sinha explained about the preparation of field, direct sowing through drum seeder, sowing method, water management, nutrition management, crop management. He also explained, while the production cost would reduce by 40% through the direct sowing method, income would increase by 30% due to more yield.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saurav Gupta Scientist KVK Samba shared information on the methods of seed treatment in paddy, its benefits, integrated disease, and pest management importantly cultivation methods, managing mechanical procedures, bio procedure, chemical procedure and how disease and pest problems would reduce through proper air, light, and plants from the drum seeder director sowing method. He also shared information on how to save spraying expenses.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma Scientist (Animal Sciences) also sensitized the farmers about novel technologies like urea treated paddy straw as animal feed. He emphasized upon the utilization of crop residues by increasing their nutritional values as feed supplement for dairy animals.
Dr. Shalini, Programme Assistant, KVK Samba emphasized the importance of soil in Paddy productivity. She stressed upon that farmers should use organic farming techniques and balanced use of fertilizers to promote soil health.
