| Separatist mull last bid to enforce boycott | | | Early Times report Srinagar, Dec19- Pre-poll campaign in the eight constituencies of Srinagar district today failed to take off owing the strict enforcement of section 144CrPC and on account of chill and poor visibility. Since the Coordination Committee had given call for organizing anti election rallies, the Government, as has been the practice for the last several weeks, ordered strict enforcement of section 144 Cr PC. Ghulam Mohammed a shopkeeper in Maisuma said “it is almost undeclared curfew restrictions.” He said as a result of these restrictions normal life remained paralyzed in the state’s summer capital where the business establishments remained closed and the transport services were off the roads in many areas. No doubt the separatists had to eat a humble pie when their call for poll boycott failed to evoke any response; they seem to be dead set to secure response to their call in the eight constituencies of Srinagar district. The interior of Srinagar is under the influence of Kashmir Mirwaiz, Umar Farooq, and the Lal Chowk belt is JKLF dominated area and experts do say that these constituencies may witness poor polling percentage. But the mainstream political parties, especially the PDP and the National Conference, are making last minute efforts to persuade voters to cast their votes. This being done because the voting pattern in the eight constituencies will decide which party will weigh heavy.
