KVK, Reasi promotes Scientific Cultivation of Strawberry

REASI, Nov 6: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting the scientific cultivation of strawberry in Reasi distt. of J&K. KVK, Reasi is providing the scientific guidelines on strawberry cultivation to the farmers of the area so that they can enhance their income and employment. KVK, Reasi is guiding the farmers on organic strawberry production so that chemical free fruit can be produced.
According to Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal, KVK, Reasi is endeavoring to enhance the income and employment among the farmers of the area by the introduction of agricultural innovations. He said that strawberry cultivation has an immense potential in the area and can improve the livelihood security of the farmers. He added that KVK is guiding the farmers on the preparation of organic and natural farming formulations such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit Panchgavya etc.so that they can utilize them for their crops production. According to him, use of locally available made organic formulations can help to reduce the cost of cultivation and increase the quality of fruits. He further said that KVK, Reasi is also promoting the use of mulching material in strawberry cultivation so that the moisture, weed and quality of fruits can be improved. He narrated that better quality of fruits can help to find more marketing channels and thus the farmers can generate more income. He informed that KVK, Reasi has laid the Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on strawberry crop of Chandler variety in different locations of Reasi distt. and farmers of the area are showing the keen interest in the crop. He added that KVK is acquainting the farmers on disease and pest management, quality improvement and post-harvest technologies in strawberry crop. KVK, Reasi is regularly upgrading the technical knowhow of the farmers on strawberry cultivation and encouraging them for its commercial cultivation.
