11/8/2022 10:57:33 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 8: With the business community as also the political parties demanding the resumption of the durbar move in Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi is likely to discuss the issue at a high level meeting soon.
Highly placed sources said the Union Home Ministry is looking ahead to call a high level meeting in this regard in consultation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It was reliably learnt that Union Home Minister, Amit Shah was likely to call on the Prime Minister for a threadbare discussion on the matter in the coming days. The sources said immediately after the prospective one-on-one, an official meeting would be called in the national capital where the top brass from Jammu and Kashmir would also be invited for final decision.
The sources said the central government has been taking feedback on the issue and that even the Bharatiya Janta Party leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have supported any such prospective move. Its pertinent to mention that senior politician Ghulam Nabi Azad has already sought restoration of the durbar.
It was reliably learnt that ahead of the much awaited Assembly elections in the Union Territory, the BJP government was exploring the prospects of resuming the durbar move.
On June 30, 2021, the 149-year-old tradition in Jammu & Kashmir known as the ‘Darbar Move’, came to an end. The Darbar Move was a biannual practice in which the government functions for six months each in the two capitals of Srinagar and Jammu.
Around 8000-9000 employees working in Civil Secretariats, with headquarters in Jammu and Srinagar, would move along with files twice every year.
On June 20, the Jammu & Kashmir government announced that the administration has completely transitioned to e-office, thereby ending the practice of the bi-annual ‘Darbar Move’. The administration served notice to employees to vacate the ‘Darbar Move’ related accommodations in 21 says in Jammu and Srinagar.
