Training program on Agricultural Census held
11/9/2022 10:40:48 PM
Early Times Report
RAJOURI, Nov 9: A one-day district-level training program on the 11th Agriculture Census 2021-22 for the officers and officials involved in the process of the census was today conducted in the Conference Hall of PWD Dakbanglow Rajouri.
Addressing the inaugural session of the training program, the visiting officer, Joint Director of planning in the office of Financial Commissioner Revenue, said the the agriculture census of 2021-22 will provide crucial information on the structural aspects of agriculture, which continues to be the mainstay of the Indian economy. He also said the census relies on the system of land records, which is prevalent in a large part of the country.
He said that the 11th Agriculture Census of 2021-22 is different from the previous Census as the GOI has taken a number of new initiatives to improve the data collection process. "One such initiative is the use of the latest technology in data collection," he added.
He stressed that the data collection process should be accurate and efficient, as it will also enable to conduct the agriculture census on a complete enumeration basis in all villages (100% coverage). He also emphasised the importance of completing the census on time.
The training focused mainly on the collection of data on the number of agricultural operational holders, land utilisation, tenancy status, irrigation facilities available, etc. On this occasion, the Deputy Director of Planning said that the Agricultural Census is a quinquennial census.
This census is to be completed in a phased manner and comprises three phases. The first phase of the scheme is based on a complete enumeration study, whereas the other two phases are based on a survey study. The crux of the scheme lies in knowing about the size of the agricultural holding and the number of operational holders in the UT.
"The Agricultural Census is a large statistical operation, and the information collected through it is quite significant for the policy planners both at the national level as well as at the state/UT level," he added. The 11th Agriculture Census of 2021-22 will chart a new course in data collection and dissemination as the traditional method of using pen and paper will be replaced by an Android app and web-based system.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Imran Kataria, Tehsildars, and Naib Tehsildars.
