| Death of teenaged girl evokes violent protests at Kreeri | | BMO suspended, inquiry ordered | | Srinagar, September 16: The tragic death of a 19 year old class X student caused by criminal negligence of the medicos at Kreeri hospital evoked massive protests during which violent protestors ransacked the hospital and demanded a stern action against the guilty. Chief Medical Officer Baramulla visited Kreeri hospital and placed under suspension Block Medical Officer Baramulla immediately. Reports reaching Srinagar indicate that one Kulsooma Bano D/O Gh Mohi-ud-Din Parray R/O Allaipora Kreerria, a class X student, suffered from a hear stroke last evening, when she was passing through a paddy field and fell unconscious by the fear caused due to lightening and thunder. Here after Kulsooma’s brother raised and alarm and got her sister shifted to Kreeri hospital, but no doctor or para-medico was available in the hospital. The people accompanying Kulsooma, according to residents, torched a candle and started searching doctors and para-medicos, but no one could be traced. In the meantime Kulsooma died; as she failed resist the severe pain. The relatives of Kulsooma turned violent and they ransacked the hospital furniture and other infrastructure. In the wee hours, people from adjoining areas thronged to Kreeri and staged massive protests against hospital administration for its negligence. The protests led to blockade of traffic. The protestors were raising slogans in favour of their demand for transfer of the guilty and stern action against them. Blaming the local officials squarely for the death of 19 year old Kulsooma, protestors said “They (the local officials) never bother to attend hospital which lies at a distance of few yards from their residential houses and their negligence result in the loss of precious human lives”. However Chief Medical Officer Baramulla while refuting the allegations said “Kulsooma was brought dead to the hospital, Block Medical Officer Ab Rashid, other doctors and para-medicos were present in the hospital, but seeing the intensity of the anger of violent mob, they fled from the spot to ensure their safety”. Announcing that an inquiry has been ordered to investigate the matter, Chief Medical Officer said that Deputy CMO has been appointed inquiry officer and those found guilty will be dealt under law. |
