Krishi Vigyan Kendra organises awareness-cum-training programme

REASI, Nov 9: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized awareness-cum-training programme on scientific cultivation of Rabi pulses here at Akhali Bhutan village of Katra block in Reasi district which was attended by a number of women farmers of the area. Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and apprised them about the importance of pulse crops, their nutritional and food security benefits. He said that Reasi district has huge potential in pulses and there is need to increase the production and productivity of pulses in the area by adopting the latest innovations in pulses production. He elaborated the scientific cultivation practices of Rabi pulses and guided the farmers on quality seed, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) and Integrated Weed Management practices in the Rabi pulses. He added that in order to increase the income of the farmers' pulses can play a significant role. He also informed the farmers that pulses help to increase the fertility of the soil as pulses plant acts like Urea manufacturing machines. He talked in length on plant protection measures in pulses and said the farmers that they should take timely remedial measures for pulses diseases. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi narrated that pulses production will not only increase the income of the farmers but also enhances the nutritional level of the people by their consumption as they are rich in proteins. He also spoke on the soil health and soil health cards for the improvement of the productivity of the pulse crops. Farmers took keen interest during the programme and ask many quarries regarding the pulses production which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK scientists in a very satisfactorily way. KVK, Reasi also laid Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on chickpea (var.GNG-1581) in the area. An awardee woman farmer of the area, Smt.Jyoti Devi was also present during the programme. Farmers appreciated the KVK efforts on promotion of pulses production in the area.
