| PDP irked as DD says its policies secessionist | | | Early times report Srinagar, Dec 20: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken strong exception to the reported prejudiced remarks made against the party by the News Unit of Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar before the Election Commission of India (ECI). In a statement issued here today, a PDP spokesman said the inherent bias of the authorities at DDK News Unit Srinagar towards the PDP was already evident from the mutilated coverage it is giving to the party in its news bulletins and commentaries. "The latest spiteful anti-PDP communiqué from the head of the DDK News Unit to ECI has put a question mark on the credibility of the news bulletins dished out by the public broadcaster in Srinagar," he said and added that the Srinagar News Unit seems to have become a party to the anti-PDP election campaign as it has been blatantly projecting the party's opponents in its provocative and slanted news commentaries. The PDP spokesman was reacting to the reports appearing in a section of the press that the DDK News Unit Srinagar while trying to justify the 'self-censored and restricted' coverage to PDP in its news bulletins has stated, in a communiqué to the ECI that the PDP's agenda of "Self-Rule and dual currency equaled to championing secessionist cause and amounted to treason". The DDK News Unit has in its communiqué, reportedly, further stated that it can't highlight the demands made by the PDP as "it would preach secessionism in Kashmir," said the spokesman. "We have reports that the Srinagar News Unit head has given clear instructions to its subordinates that the public gatherings of the PDP leaders should be edited to distort the same to the maximum possible," he said. |
