Social welfare department celebrates Bal Mela
Commissioner Secretary exhorts inmates to give equal focus on sports, education

JAMMU, Nov 15: As part of Bal Diwas celebration across the nation, Social Welfare Department (SWD) organized Bal mela at Palaash Bal Ashram and Parisha Nari Niketan at Social Welfare Complex in R S Pura here today.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of inmates of Bal Ashram and Nari Niketan RS Pura, Udhampur and Kathua. The inmates of residential school for blind Roopnagar Jammu were also attended the mela.
Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Director General, Social Welfare Department Jammu, Vivek Sharma and other senior officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Secretary appreciated the efforts of the department for remodelling of Palaash and Parisha with various amenities like computer laboratory, study rooms, dining areas, laundry areas, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor sports facilities as well as play park areas have been dedicated to the inmates for their overall growth and development. Sheetal Nanda encouraged the children to take maximum advantage of the facilities being provided to them for their overall personality development.
She exhorted upon them to accord equal focus on extra curricular activities and cultural activities besides academics for their overall growth and development.
On the occasion, various cultural and sports activities were presented by the inmates with full enthusiasm.
Commissioner Secretary felicitated the winners of various sports and cultural activities.
Various attractive stalls were established for children during Bal mela which included ring toss game, candy stalls, mickey mouse mascot and trampoline among others.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion were Chairman Block Development Council, RS Pura, Tarsem Sharma, Chairman Municipal Corporation, RS Pura Satpaul Sharma, SDM RS Pura, Ram Lal Sharma besides other officers and officials of the Social Welfare Department.
