IGNOU organizes webinar on "Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan"

JAMMU, Nov 16: In line with the Prime Minister's vision to make a National Strategic Plan for elimination of Tuberculosis from the Country, the Hon'ble President of India launched the "Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan" in September this year which aims to make this a people's movement and provide community support to TB patients through. Regional Centre Jammu organized a webinar through the online platform which was attended by the Officials and staff of the RC, Director School of Health Sciences, IGNOU New Delhi HQs., Coordinators, Programme In Charges of Learner Support Centres under Jammu and other stakeholders of the University. The resource person of the special webinar was Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, AIIMS, Jammu.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar in his discourse elaborated about symptoms of the disease, dos and don'ts and need for awareness of tuberculosis among the masses. He briefed about the different aspects of this disease and the need for psychological evaluation of the patients during the course of treatment. He informed that this initiative of the Government of India would not only increase the active involvement of society in the fight against tuberculosis but also help in reduction of the stigma associated with it.
Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Regional Director In charge welcomed the resource person and briefed about the event. He stated that IGNOU with its huge network of LSCs spread across the length and breadth of this Country and having a gigantic student base can play a vital role in creating mass awareness movement about the "TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan"
Dr. Asha Upadhyay, Assistant Regional Director shared her views about the ingrained stigma regarding the disease in patients and society at large and stressed on the need for awareness campaigns at levels.
Dr. Vikram Singh, Assistant Regional Director presented the "vote of thanks" and in his concluding remarks informed about the government initiatives for TB patients like Nutritional Support, investigations and diagnosis support, vocational support, etc.
