KVK promotes oyster mushroom cultivation

REASI, Nov 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting the oyster mushroom cultivation in Reasi distt. of J&K so that the farmers can generate extra farm income and employment. According to Sr. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal, there is an immense potential of mushroom cultivation in the hilly district Reasi of J&K and farmers can fetch more money by its commercial level cultivation. He revealed that the agro-climatic conditions in the district are ideal for the growth of oyster mushroom. He said that mushroom cultivation is gaining momentum in the district and by observing the results of successful mushroom growers many new farmers are coming forward to reap the benefits of nutritional security and subsidiary income through this venture. He said that there is need to adopt the scientific technology in mushroom cultivation. He said that mushroom cultivation can be done even by the small or landless farmers. He also highlighted the round the year mushroom cultivation and narrated the value addition in mushroom crop for more returns. He said that mushroom cultivation is a landless venture which can be started with the minimum investments. He narrated that the district is visited by millions of visitors round the year and there is great demand of mushroom. He added that KVK is guiding the farmers on the scientific cultivation of mushroom and also on its efficient marketing management so that farmers can get sustainable income.
