Terror and crowd funding
11/18/2022 11:04:47 PM
Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Dinkar Gupta recently stated that terror groups are misusing social media platforms for raising funds.
He stressed on the need to issue the address of crowd funding on social media on a war-footing basis.
The social media platforms are used as crowd funding platforms, and finances raised through such sources are ultimately used for terror purposes. This is an issue which needs to be addressed. Weak social media regulations have emerged as one of the biggest challenges in tackling terrorism across the globe.
Terror funding has always been one of the most important concerns of the investigating agencies. The NIA has played an important role in breaking the backbone of terror funding by choking the channels through which the money used to flow for financing the activities of the terrorists.
The crackdown launched by the NIA against the terror funding led to many skeletons tumbling out of the cupboards and brought to fore such facts that created ripples. The investigations carried out by the NIA have revealed how the terrorists were financed and how the conflict was kept alive in J&K by pumping money through illegal Hawala channels.
After the abrogation of Article 370, the NIA and other investigating agencies have tightened their noose around the people involved in terror funding cases and have ensured that no one is allowed to get a free run. The concern about crowd funding through social media raised by the NIA, Director General needs to be addressed and the NIA is capable of neutralizing this threat.
India is not the only country which is a victim of terrorism. Many countries across the globe have been hit hard by the terrorism. As on date the entire world has come together to wipe out the terrorism and act tough against the countries like Pakistan that are sponsoring terror.
The nations that sponsor terror should understand that the world has changed and the entire international community has adopted the approach of zero-tolerance towards terrorism. The world has been appreciating India’s fight against terrorism and has been standing by it.
The ongoing “No Money For Terror” Conference being held in New Delhi and It being attended by about 450 delegates from across the world, including Ministers, Heads of Multilateral organizations and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is a message to terrorists and their sponsors that they won’t be tolerated.
