| Mufti asks Srinagar residents to make decisive move | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 21- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has called upon the voters of Srinagar to put a final stamp on the renewed assertion of the people's will to transform their destiny through peaceful and democratic means. "I expect the emancipated voters of Srinagar would add their strength to this new form of Kashmir's assertion," he said.
Addressing a series of election rallies in Sonawar and Hazratbal constituencies of district Srinagar today, Sayeed said while ‘Bijli, Paani, Sadak’ are the issues of common concern, but the encouraging participation of the people in the ongoing democratic process is fundamentally an assertion of their self-respect and identity. "The process of elections can't be seen in isolation of the need for the resolution of the Kashmir issue," he said and added that the people of Srinagar must have a strong representative voice in shaping up a peaceful, stable and prosperous Kashmir.
Sayeed said participation of the people in the democratic process would create an enabling environment for the peaceful and amicable settlement of the Kashmir issue. "It should open up a new window for broad-based engagement of divergent shades of political opinion in the State for the resolution of the issue," he said.
Pointing out that the people of the Valley have made a bold statement of peace during the recent agitation, Sayeed said Kashmir is again emerging as an island of non-violence and civilized conduct. "This momentous transformation shall have to be necessarily responded with political and economic initiatives of significance to accord Jammu & Kashmir and its people their rightful place in the sub-continent," he said.
The PDP Patron said the present election is, perhaps, the most important democratic exercise being conducted in the State's recent history. "The forthcoming Government would not only be the most empowered, but it would be more accountable to the people of the State," he said and added that the people of Srinagar can't afford to keep themselves aloof in the new situation. "You have to be a part and parcel of the future landmark initiatives that are going to be revealed on the Kashmir's political and economic landscape," he told the gathering.
Sayeed said that PDP if voted to power institutionalize the functioning of the Wakaf Board to make it a vibrant institution for religious and social activities. "After having already established two universities and nursing college, the Wakaf Board would be asked to establish a modern Information Technology University in Srinagar to train our young boys and girls in latest IT courses," he said. He said the work on beautification of Eidgah and expansion and beautification of various revered shrines in Srinagar would be also completed on priority while taking up other shrines for similar development.
PDP candidates for Sonawar and Hazratbal constituencies Ghulam Qadir Pardesi and Asiya Naqash also addressed these rallies.
