Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan- Jammu University Chapter organizes Menstrual and Dental Health Camp

Jammu, Nov 20: Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan- Jammu University Chapter in collaboration with University Health Centre and National Medicos Organization, Jammu organized one day Menstrual and Dental Health Camp for the adolescent girls of the Higher Secondary School, Bhore Camp in one of the adopted village of Jammu University, Chatta. Around 100 adolescent girls participated in the camp. They were sensitized on the issues related to Menstrual and Dental Health by the team of Doctors and the faculty members of the University of Jammu.
On this occasion, Dr Gautam Sharma, Dentist, Health Centre, University of Jammu, examined the oral health of the girls and provided them with tips for taking care of their Dental Health. Dr. Deepak from National Medicos Organization interacted with the students and stressed on the importance of maintaining menstrual hygiene. Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Medical officer, Health Centre, University of Jammu clinically examined the girls for signs and symptoms of anaemia, and later supplements of iron and folic acid were also distributed among the girls. Dr. Sarika Manhas, Member Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan motivated the girls to come forward and speak about their health issues. She also apprised them about the importance of menstrual health along with providing nutritional information to them. Dr.Hema Gandotra, Member, Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan talked about the social stigma and taboos attached with the menstruation process in the society and how girls are an important agent for bringing in change in the mindset of people. Dr. Suresh N Rao, Member, Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan also interacted with the students and spoke about the objectives of the programme and the need for conducting such camps. The entire activity was conducted under the supervision of Professor Jasbir Singh, Convenor, Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan, University of Jammu. Sr. Avtar Singh, Sarpanch Chatha and Chairman Sr. Charanjeet Singh interacted with the team of doctors and faculty members and discussed the challenges being faced by them in the villages while carrying out the government initiatives. Later, Ms. Kiran, Principal of the school congratulated the team of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan, University of Jammu for such an initiative and for conducting the medical camp for the benefit of the students. The camp was also attended by the research scholars Ms. Neha Uttam and Ms. Vinish Malik from the University of Jammu.
