| Candid Azad admits he was more popular in Delhi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 21- Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that his popularity graph declined by one tenth level while he was occupying the chair of chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. In a candid interview aired by one of the local cable channels on Sunday Azad himself admitted on camera that while he was union minister in New Delhi he was more popular and when he became chief minister his popularity declined by one tenth level. “As union minister I traveled frequently from one state to another, I visited various countries, but while I was chief minister, my life was restricted to only measuring road lengths, monitoring project works and inspecting these. I could not get opportunity to go out of the state”, said Azad in response to a question.
Expressing his desire to rule the state for another full term with clear majority in his hands Azad said, “He feels satisfied with his performance as chief minister but looking for an opportunity to finish his agenda”. “I am satisfied with what I did during my term in office despite the fact that there were pulls and pressures of the coalition government. I did not enjoy absolute majority as Dr Farooq Abdullah enjoyed, yet I was able to hasten the speed of development works and carried out major developmental works to fulfill people’s aspirations of all three regions. Azad said that before he occupied office of chief minister he was union minister with a budget of over Rs 1,50,000 crore and he returned to his home state whose annual budget was Rs 4000 crore. As union minister sitting in Delhi I always used to think why pace of developmental work was so slow in my home state. I felt restless and wanted to come back to my home state. He said he felt privileged to have worked closely with former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narsimha Rao, Manmohan Singh. Working with them I learnt a lot and wanted to repay back. With this mission in mind I decided to come back and took the responsibility on my shoulders to do something for people of my home state. In the end he said it is up to the people of the state to judge him and his performance before going to vote. If people think I have done good job they will vote for me and if they think I have failed to deliver they are better judge of their own destiny.
