Dr Poonam Parihar from SKUAST-Jammu conferred with Best Teacher Award

JAMMU, Nov 22: Dr. Poonam Parihar, Associate Professor, working in the Division of Agricultural Extension Education of SKUAST-Jammu has been honoured with the Best Teacher Award by the Royal Association for Science-Led Socio-Cultural Advancement (RASSA) during National Conference on the topic, “Natural Farming for Sustainable Agriculture & National Prosperity” jointly organized by Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Royal Association for Science-Led Socio-Cultural Advancement & Akshay Krishi Parivar at SDAU, Krushinagar. The award was conferred on Dr Parihar in recognition of excellence she achieved in teaching & guiding the students and overall achievements and contributions in the area of Extension Education in general & entrepreneurship development in particular. The award contains a Certificate of Excellence along with a Memento. She is having a vast experience of teaching at different places. She is teaching to UG, PG & Ph.D students in the different areas of Agricultural Extension Education, Entrepreneurship/Agripreneurship Development, gender sensitization & Communication Skills & Personality Development, Human Values & ethics & other allied subjects. Her expertise is on entrepreneurship/Agripreneurship development. She has done a lot of work in this area especially for rural women. She has published two books titled, “Women Entrepreneurs- A Socio Economic Study” & “Impact of Dairy SHs on the Livelihood of Women Dairy Entrepreneurs.” Besides, she has contributed a number of book chapters in many books. She has around 150 publications, including 25 research papers published in different esteemed journals & also some newspaper articles. She worked in the areas of processing, preservation and value addition of fruits, vegetables, milk products and created awareness about entrepreneurship development amongst the unemployed youths and rural masses especially women- folk and drop outs. She invariably appears in TV and Radio talks in local language as well as in Hindi and English on the subject-Agricultural Entrepreneurship Development for making the rural women & youths self-reliant (Atamnirbhar). She is acting as a resource person of different NGOs & SAMETI. She is the recipient of different awards in recognition to her distinguish services for science & society e.g., Yashasvi Samman, Dr G.S. Vidyarthi Memorial Award, Bharat Jyoti Puraskar, ISEE Fellow Award, Presidential Award, Young Scientist Award, Rashtraya Gaurav Award, Best KVK Professional Award & Fellow of Hind Agri-Horticultural Society (FHAS)Award. She also got more than10 Best paper/Poster presentation awards. She is also an Associate Editor & member of so many reputed research Journals & societies of extension education. She is the member of so many important committees of the University. She is the Executive of SKUAST-J Teaching Association. She is also having the International Exposure. She made the farmers aware about the formulation & working of SHGs and their contribution in establishing women agri-enterprises, Value added Agriculture: A pathway for rural women & youth to become self-reliant. She is acting as Chairperson of Royal Association for Science-Led Socio-Cultural Advancement (RASSA) Chapter, Jammu. She is also associated with different social organizations which are working for the overall development of women where she is imparting the education to the women/young girls to become socio-economically independent. She is also educating them regarding the self-defense, discipline, cultural & religious values which are very much important to lead a quality life. Her student Ms Appoorva Gupta also got best thesis award for her Master’s work on the topic, “Impact Evaluation of Women Dairy Self-Help Groups of Mahila Grameen Hastkala Welfare Society of Kathua District.”
