Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 22- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has said the youth of Srinagar would now get justice as she would herself champion their cause. "I understand the trauma and plight of the city's young boys and girls and they can now count on me and my party for soothing their agonies," she said.
Addressing a series of election rallies in Hazratbal constituency today, Mehbooba said a new generation of young men and women in Jammu and Kashmir are looking forward to a peaceful and productive future and they should be given the liberty to have it. "For years youth of Kashmir have been denied the freedom to dream, aspire and make a full and happy life for themselves," she said and added that they must now enjoy the fruits of peace and prosperity.
Mehbooba said any conscious person would bow his head shame on seeing the economic deprivation and the disregard a vast population in and around the city has been subjected to by the National Conference that ruled the State for around three decades. "Be assured you have now your own party (PDP) by your side that will improve the standard of your living not only in material terms but also in emotional and qualitative terms," she told the gatherings.
"If the NC could have done justice with Srinagar and its residents, their leaders today had no need to swear of their loyalties to the city by shouting from the rooftops and through hotchpotch advertisements in the newspapers," Mehbooba said. She said sensing the retaliatory public mood, the NC leaders are now crossing all limits of civilized behavior and decency and Dr Farooq Abdullah's scornful speeches against PDP have now become an entertaining pastime for audiences in Srinagar.
Mehbooba said it is a pity that at a time when the people are looking towards the political leadership for a futuristic progressive vision for the State, NC is busy spending lavishly on their mud-slinging campaign against the PDP. "On one side of the newspaper there is a political and economic vision for the development of the city outlined by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and, ironically, the next page of the same newspaper is full of abuses, malice and hate-campaign being run by NC against the PDP," she said and added that there could be no better parameter to gauge NC's political bankruptcy than its latest media-campaign.
Seeking a decisive mandate for PDP from the voters of Srinagar, Mehbooba said the people here have tried and suffered under NC rule for 30 years; let them now give Mufti Mohammad Sayeed six years to transform his vision of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir into a reality. "You gave just three years to him with 16 MLAs and he tried his best to do, not only for Srinagar but for the whole State, whatever was possible during that short period," she said.
"Give Mufti Mohammad Sayeed six years and I assure you he would not let you down," she told the gathering.
