| New assembly to represent people's aspirations: Mufti | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 22- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said having rejected violence, Kashmiris have reposed their faith in peaceful and democratic means for the resolution of their problems. "The leadership of India and Pakistan must now respond to this new opportunity and rejuvenate the Kashmir resolution process with fresh resolve," he said. Addressing election rallies on the last leg of campaigning in Amirakadal and Eidgah constituencies today, Sayeed said the leadership of India and Pakistan should exercise restraint and show similar maturity in handling the current crisis as has been displayed during the last six decades. "Whether it was the attack on Parliament or the Kargil conflict, it is only restraint and patience that can get the South-Asian Region out of its problems and remove the distress between nations and communities," he said. Sayeed said it should not continue to be the State's destiny to lose our young people to guns and bullets. These elections should result as a verdict that creates an atmosphere for us which will provide the best knowledge, education, skills and employment opportunities, he said. "Kashmir has charted its own course of peaceful resistance and struggle and this will be reflected in the State Assembly when it is constituted after the elections," he said. Sayeed said the new Assembly will have to represent the true aspirations of the people of Kashmir and not be a tool in anybody's hands to subvert our special position or the special rights that have been conferred on the State. The new Assembly shall have to focus with urgency on restoration of the constitutional and political rights that State has been assured of but the assurances were always observed in breach and never in practice. Sayeed assured the people that PDP would continue its struggle for ensuring the security, dignity and prosperity of the State's people. PDP leaders Mohammad Dillawar Mir, Basharat Bukhari, Asifa Tariq, Anjum Qadiri, Haji Parvez, Tariq Ahmad, Bashir Ahmad and Ghulam Mohammad also addressed these gatherings
