100 more Jamaat properties likely to be sealed
11/27/2022 11:13:12 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 27: Amid a crackdown by the State Investigation Agency (SIA) against the Jamaat-e-Islami, the radical Islamist group with a history of terror funding, the Union Home Ministry is looking ahead to notify around 100 more immovable properties of the JeI for sealing.
Whereas after freezing its bank accounts, the SIA has started the seizure of the Jamaat properties, it was learnt that the recent sealing operations were only the “trailer”.
Sources said the SIA has already discovered around 100 more immovable properties of JeI across Jammu and Kashmir and that the matter has been brought to the notice of the Union Home Ministry. A senior official said the properties would be sealed once the process of notification for the same is completed.
“Once the notification process is completed all such properties will be sealed in a phased manner,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
A major crackdown on the assets of the JeI started in early November 2022 when as many as nine properties including educational institutions were sealed in the apple district of Shopian.
That time the Early Times had reported that more sealing operations would take place across Kashmir especially in Anantnag. The report was vindicated by the crackdown done on November 26 when 11 properties worth crores belonging to JeI were sealed in Anantnag district.
Officials said once the property is sealed by the SIA, nobody can enter it till further orders.
Seen as the de facto militant face of the terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, JeI had been accused of funding the anti-India sentiment through its “shell ventures.”
The crackdown on the JeI was started under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Official sources said the crackdown on Jamaat has been “beneficial in brining down terror and stone pelting activities across Kashmir region which has been witnessing a new era of peace and prosperity since August 5, 2019.”
