54th National School Games U-19 Girls Cricket
Host J&K’s opening match washed away
12/22/2008 9:23:32 PM

JAMMU, Dec 22: Due to wet wicket, followed by dense fog, hosts J&K could not play their opening league round match against Andhra Pradesh in 54th National School Games for under-19 girls cricket started today at different venues, here under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS).

Scheduled to be played at MA Stadium in the morning, both the teams showed their displeasure over the ground preparedness and consequently were reluctant to play on a wet turf. However, the organizers took the teams to another venue of MHAC Nagbani to conduct the match. But, to their dismay, there was hardly enough time left to hold second match at pre-occupied Nagbani School ground.

Finding the schedule tight in view of the adverse weather conditions, the technical committee as also the umpires penal decided to re-schedule the match for tomorrow at same venue.

Now, going by the technical committee verdict, J&K has to play two matches tomorrow. The first match, already scheduled, shall be played at GGM Science College Hostel ground at 9 am, while the other match against Andhra Pradesh shall take place at MA Stadium at 1.30 pm. Host Jammu and Kashmir has been place in group-D with Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh being other teams.

Earlier, in the day, in an interesting development, Delhi inflicted a humiliating 171 runs defeat on Orissa. In reply to Delhi’s 181 runs target set in 25 overs for the loss of one wicket, Orissa could make only nine runs losing all their wickets in 7.3 overs.
