| Annual Day of Sainik School | | Governor exhorts youth to take up challenging career in the Armed Forces | | Early times Report
JAMMU, DECEMBER 22: Governor, Mr N N Vohra, today observed that the enhanced pay package and other privileges will attract talented youth to take up careers in the country's Defence Services and other Armed Forces. Speaking at the XXXVI Annual Day function of the Sainik School, Nagrota, here this afternoon, the Governor referred to the deficiency of officers in the junior commissioned ranks in Armed Forces due to the availability of many other professional openings and attractive salaries in the private sector. Highly impressed by the cultural bonanza, presented by the students, the Governor described them as the ambassadors of peace and harmony and exhorted them to work towards calm and balance in the societies in which they lived. He complimented Balwant Thakur, the Director of the Natrang Group, for producing and directing an outstanding programme, depicting the rich culture of the three regions of the State. He also lauded the role of the participating students, making it a lively presentation. The Governor also released the annual magazine of the school, "Chinar". Earlier, the Lady Governor, Mrs Usha Vohra, presented trophies and awards to the faculty, staff and students for their distinction in the management, academics, sports and extra-curricular activities. She congratulated the recipients on their enviable distinction in the varied fields. Presenting the Annual Report, the Principal, Group Captain Ajay Kumar, said that with a view to inspire and motivate the cadets to join the Arnmed Forces and to enhance their general awareness the School organized various educational-cum-motivational tours during the year. About 20 cadets of the School undertook a tour of Banglore and Mysore in May this year while another 25 cadets were taken to National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune to witness the passing out parade last month. He said that 12 cadets are presently participating in an Adventure Camp at State Institute of Mountaineering, Manali in Himachal Pradesh. The Principal said that the School participated in the pre Republic Day Camp held at Nagrota where Cadet Umair Noor and Cadet Sayeed Musheer have been selected to take part in the ensuing Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. About 300 students presented a mega musical theatre performance, conceived, designed and directed by Balwant Thakur. Among those present on the occasion were the Principal of the School, Group Captain Ajay Kumar, Headmaster, Col Krishan Yadav, members of the faculty, students and their parents.
