MIET organizes Annual Research Awards function

Jammu, Nov 30: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) organized its annual Research Awards function at Kot Bhalwal campus felicitating its faculty members who have excelled in Research and Development. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai was the chief guest on the occasion while Prof. Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER presided over the function. The Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET, Prof. S.K Sharma Advisor to Chairperson, Prof. G.S. Sambyal Advisor to Chairperson, Prof. Ashok Aima, Former Vice-Chancellor Central University and currently Chair Professor at MIET School of Management, Prof. B.C Sharma, Dean Training and Placement, Dr. Sahil Sawhney, General Manager Strategic Initiatives. Prof. Ashok Kumar Dean Academic Affairs,.
The research awards at MIET serve to recognize the achievements of the faculty members in the field of Research and Development. This year 38 faculty members were felicitated at the function for producing quality research outcomes.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Chairperson MIER presented the welcome address. She described Prof. Umesh Rai as an ideal academician and researcher who is a role model for young faculty members aspiring to build strong careers in academia. Dr. Renu Gupta recalled a very heartwarming incident during the event attended by both of them together at University of Jammu where Prof. Umesh Rai touched the feet of his Guru, indicating his humility and value system.
Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director MIET presented the research report and informed the audience that the MIET faculty had published 104 research papers in international journals with 69 indexed in Scopus and 47 in SCI/SCIE-indexed journals since the last edition of Research awards held in September 2021.
Further, 6 patents were filed during the same period, taking the total number of patents filed to 31, while two patents have been granted. Research grants worth 6 Lakhs were received from various funding agencies, while research projects worth Rs. 12 lakhs were completed.
This year MIET awarded “Seed Grants” to seven faculty projects related to Rain Water Harvesting, Survey on Research and Innovation in J&K, Design and Implementation of a Student-Data Authentication System, Self-Driving Autonomous Vehicles Simulation Setup, Stadium Style Seating using Stone Mesh Blocks, Effectiveness of Social Media Platforms for Employee Engagement and Design and Implementation of an Authenticated Document Issuing System, totalling Rs 10.0 Lakhs.
Speaking on the occasion Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai talked about how education has been confined to four walls of the classroom, while it needs to be made broad-based. Prof Umesh Rai quoted extensively from our scriptures to drive home cogent points about education and learning including the life learnings of Acharya Vinoba Bhave. Prof. Rai stressed upon the importance of initiatives like Research Awards to boost the research and development activities at the institution level. He further appreciated the dynamic leadership of Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director MIET for the overall development of the institution and especially in the area of IT adoption, innovation and research and development.
The Chief Guest later handed out certificates and monetary incentives to the awardees. Two student teams from MIET including the faculty mentors who had won the first prize of Rs. 1 Lakh in the finals of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) held at Hubli and Comibatore were also felicitated during the award ceremony.
The function concluded with a group photograph of the awardees with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor. The event was seamlessly coordinated by Shafalika Vijayal, Assistant Professor, CSE Department.
