Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 1: The Jammu and Kashmir Congress is reportedly divided over issuing a statement to demand the eviction of all politicians from government accommodation. Some Congress leaders have expressed their reservations over indulge in this matter and asked party leaders not to rake up this issue unnecessarily.
Sources said that after the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti vacated her Fairview bungalow on November 28, the party leadership decided to issue a statement to evict all politicians from government accommodation but the same decision was thwarted by some leaders, reasons best known to them.
Worthwhile to mention here that the PDP president was asked to vacate her Fairview bungalow as well as her accommodation in the Anantnag district.
On Sunday, the Executive Magistrate First Class served the eviction notice to Mufti and others on the instructions of the Anantnag Deputy Commissioner for the Government quarters located in Housing Colony at Khanabal in the south Kashmir area. The notifications were sent to ex-MLAs Mohammad Altaf Wani, Abdul Rahim Rather, Abdul Majeed Bhat, Altaf Shah, and Abdul Kabir Pathan, as well as ex-MLCs Bashir Shah and Choudhary Nizamuddin. Sources said that a couple of Congress leaders were not interested in issuing any statement on government accommodation occupied by politicians despite the dissolution of the J&K Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.
Sources said that due to the objection of some leaders no statement on the illegal occupation of government accommodation by politicians was issued from the official mail of the J&K Pradesh Congress.
A statement was only issued by former Minister Yogesh Sawhney. He said that the BJP administration must ask all former Ministers, MLAs, and MLCs to vacate government accommodation, irrespective of party, without targeting individuals. He said that the BJP should not use its power as a weapon against its political opponents by targeting high-profile individuals.
All former ministers and members of the legislature, whether they are from BJP, NC, PDP, or Congress, should be asked to vacate the government quarters provided to them during their tenure. There should be no discrimination and targeting while doing this process, said Sawhney.
