Farooq: the wealthiest Ex-CM

Jammu, Dec 22: Who can be wealthiest among all former Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir who are also contesting present elections –naturally Dr Farooq Abdullah.
The National Conference (NC) patron Farooq Abdullah is the richest among three former chief ministers seeking mandate in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
However, the fate of two former chief ministers -- Ghulam Nabi Azad, seeking election from Bhaderwah and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed contesting from Anantnag -- has already been sealed in the Electronic Voting Machines while Dr Abdullah is fighting from Sonawar and Hazratbal constituencies, going to the polls in the seventh and last phase on December 24.
Interestingly, Azad and Sayeed said they have no vehicles while Dr Abdullah owns two -- Grand Vetara and Scorpio.
Azad declared in his affidavit that he has no cash while Dr Abdullah declared Rs 1 lakh and Mufti Rs 60,000, shown in their affidavits, filed before their respective Returning Officers.
All the three said they have taken no loan from any bank or government. The NC patron said he has no tax balance due while Mufti paid Rs 10,015 as the Income Tax and Azad claimed to have paid Rs 45,765 to the Income Tax department during the year 2008-09.
Sayeed said he has 11,26,915 deposit in a bank while Azad Rs 16,80,000 in the State Bank of India and Rs 3,13,552 in the Jammu and Kashmir bank. But both have not purchased any bounds of any company.
Dr Abdullah said he has Rs 1,97,436,60 in the Jammu and Kashmir bank and Rs 7,66,948 in the State Bank of India, New Delhi, and has purchased the shares of Reliance for Rs 4,26,755.
However, he has no information about the jewellery of his wife as she is living in London since April 1990.
''I have no knowledge about her cash certificates and ornaments,'' he said, adding after ascertaining the fact information will be made available.
