Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 3: Department of political science of Government Degree College Sidhra in collaboration with NSS Unit under the aegis of IQAC organized an indispensable Lecture on the theme "International Day of the person with Disabilities".
The resource person for the lecture was Prof. Meesha Bhagat, Dept of political Science of the College. The lecture was initiated with a welcome note given by Dr. Harpreet Kour, Head of the Department of Political Science.
The resource person Prof. Meesha Bhagat in her valuable lecture made the students aware about the International Day of person with Diabilities, celebrated on 3rd December every year worldwide. She highlighted that in common parlance, disability refers to a level of difficulty, limitation, or dependency that might range from minor to severe on a physical level. Disability restricts a person's capacity to engage in certain activities and their ability to connect with others, hence all disabled individuals must have access to inclusive facilities like education, healthcare, and housing in a particular social setting in order to put them on par with other people. She underscored that hundreds of millions of individuals with disabilities who lack access to necessary resources for health, rehabilitation, support, education, and employment may be integrated into society at large. She further drew attention on the constitutional aspect that the person with disabilities also fall in the category of citizens and the government must made all the rights available to them by their legal procedures, i.e to come to their rescue and redressal everytime. The event was ended with the formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, Program Officer, NSS Unit. The programme was conducted and successfully completed under the patronship of Dr. B.B Anand, Principal GDC Sidhra.
