| Govt to shop more from SSI units | | | Early Times Reporter JAMMU, DEC 23: Advisor to Governor, Mr. H. H. Tyabji has underscored the need for timely execution of ongoing industrial infrastructure so that the prospective entrepreneurs are able to establish their ventures under entrepreneurs friendly policies framed by the government. The Advisor was chairing the 79th Board of Directors meeting of, SICOP here today. Tyabji said that more emphasis should be laid to develop the basic infrastructure in the state, which is short of the desired results owing to its volatile geographical landscape. He said that vigorously campaigning is needed to identify the factors responsible for short falls, which could be addressed and projected rightly for urgent central assistance in the sector. The Board in its meeting discussed several proposals aimed at harmonious development of industry and reviewed the marketing policy in the state. The meeting noted with satisfaction that several additional items have been identified for exclusive purchase by all the departments from SSI sector through SICOP. It was also decided to opt for integrated infrastructure upgradation schemes of Government of India for carrying out major upgradation works in the existing industrial estates. The Board decided to complete the integrated infrastructure development centre at Govindisar Kathua by March 2010. It also decided to complete the development of Silk and Handicraft Park at Zakura by June 2009. The project is directly funded by Minister of Textiles, Government of India. The meeting also proposed to identify ten additional items for exclusive purchase to government departments from SSI sector and also decided to recommend to the finance department the sympathetic consideration of creating revolving fund that would facilitate instant release of payments to these units. It was also discussed that suitable sights be identified for developing new industrial estates sot that the demand of prospective entrepreneurs is met and new units come up needed for generating employment avenues. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Directors of Industries and Commerce Jammu/Kashmir, Director General Finance Department, Director MSME, Government of India, Director Project Appraisal Planning, Presidents of Jammu Chamber of Industries, Federation Chamber of Industries, Kashmir, SSI Association Gangyal and representatives of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce besides the MD, SICOP.
