This was disclosed at a high level meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Advisor to Governor, Mr. C. Phunsog.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Director, Air Force Authorities of India, Mr. N. N. Gupta, SSP Anti Hijacking, Mr. Rajinder Gupta, Station Commander, Air Force, Jammu, Director Civil Aviation, Mr. S Katoch were present in the meeting.
It was decided that two sorties of the Air Force Courier Service on Saturday and Tuesday for airlifting passengers from Jammu to Kargil would be operated on weekly basis. The passengers shall have to register their names at the Kargil House, Jammu for booking of tickets. The passengers would be provided air tickets after proper registration by the Liaison Officer AN-31 Courier Service Jammu @ Rs.1450/- per passenger per trip. The passengers would be ferried from Kargil House Jammu upto Civil Airport in specially hired buses from J&KSRTC.
It was informed that ideal time for the IAF aircraft to land and takeoff from the Jammu airport would be between 10 a. m to 11 a. m when there is less air traffic congestion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Advisor appreciated Army Authorities for providing this special dispensation for the people of Kargil and Leh adding that every caution would be taken to ensure that the courier service is exclusively used only for airlifting passengers. He enjoined upon the officers especially Deputy Commissioners of Leh and Kargil to keep close liaison with Air Force authorities and respective departments to ensure better use of the courier service throughout the winter season during which entire Ladakh region remains entirely land locked. He said operation of the courier service redresses the grievances of the stranded Kargil bound passengers to a great extent.
