Jammu Surveillance Unit reviews implementation of National Rabies Control programme in Rajouri, Poonch districts

RAJOURI, Dec 5: A meeting of National Rabies Control programme and Integrated Health Information Portal (IDSP) was held here today to review the implementation of the twin central schemes in the Border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
The objective of the meeting was to sensitize the participants about Prevention and control of deaths due to Rabies in humans and progressively achieving the Global target for “Rabies- Zero by 2030.”
The meeting was conducted in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Rajouri. At the outset, Dr D.J. Raina, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, GMC Rajouri, gave a detailed presentation on the National Rabies Control Programme and various new initiatives being implemented at health facilities for providing post exposure prophylaxis of rabies.
A thread ware discussion was held regarding Provision of Anti Rabies Vaccine and Anti Rabies Serum to all animal bite victims up to PHC level through National Free Drug Initiative, capacity building of health professionals regarding Rabies post exposure prophylaxis. Various modalities regarding increasing awareness about post exposure prophylaxis among the general community were also discussed.
Dr Harjeet Rai, State Surveillance Officer, IDSP, Jammu and Shalini Soodan, Divisional Data Manager, IDSP, in their Power Point presentation sensitized the participants about the data updation and its quality on Integrated Health Information Portal of their respective districts. The Integrated Health Information Platform is a web-enabled near-real-time electronic information system that is embedded with all applicable Government of India's e-Governance standards, and Information Technology (IT) to provide state-of-the-art single operating picture with geospatial information for managing disease outbreaks and related resources.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Hamid Zargar CMO Rajouri, Dr. Mohd Yusuf Chief Veterinary Officer, Rajouri, Dr. Dev Raj DIO Rajouri, Block Medical Officers of District Rajouri and Poonch, Medical officers, Anushika Gupta, Financial Consultant, IDSP and paramedical staff.
