Fencer Shreya Gupta to participate in world cup at Germany

JAMMU, Dec 7: International Fencer of J&K UT Shreya Gupta is going to participate in upcoming Fencing world cup at Dormagen, Germany being held from 17th-18th December 2022. Shreya has qualified for this prestigious tournament on the basis of her 2nd ranking in 30th junior National championship held at Cuttack, Odisha from 29th June to 2nd July 2022. Pertinent to add here that currently, Shreya Gupta is on a three months training camp in Hungary.
The camp along with 5 world cups have been sponsored by TOPS (TARGET OLYMPICS PODIUM SCHEME) scheme of Sports Authority of India, Ministry of youth and Sports, GOI. During this camp, there is also a schedule of participating in World Cup at Almaty, Kazakhstan (5th November 2022), world Cup at Tashkent, Uzbekistan (19th November 2022), World cup at Sosnowiec, Poland (2nd-3rd December 2022), World cup at Dormagen, Germany (16th-17th December 2022) and World cup at Budapest, Hungary (6th-7th January 2023. Shreya has qualified for these world cups on the basis of her ranking in National championships. Shreya has already won prestigious State award, sher-i-kashmir sports award for her achievements. She has till now, won 15 gold medals at national level besides 3 international medals Talking to new agency, Shreya reiterated that the training camp at Hungary and playing in world cups is giving lots of exposure and improving her performance manifold. This shall be beneficial for her in future events.
Meanwhile, Secretary, J&K Sports council, Nuzhut Gull complimented shreya for getting this extraordinary opportunity for getting specialized training which is being funded by Sports Authority of India. She said this will help the fencer to a great extent in bringing laurels for the country and J&K UT. Gull expressed her thanks to Ministry of Youth and SPORTS for the schemes like TOPS which is preparing future aspirants for the Olympics. President, J&K Amateur Fencing Association, M.J. Sharma congratulated Shreya for getting this golden opportunity and hope she will come with splendid performance in future and win medals at international and national level.
