Plant trees to counter air pollution
12/12/2022 12:44:41 AM

Recently, Director SKIMS Dr Parvaiz Koul, revealed that around 10,000 deaths in Jammu and Kashmir are caused due to air pollution and there is need to act and control it by countering it. The people in J&K are unaware about the fact that air pollution issues are not only confined to Delhi and Maharashtra but are also increasing in J&K due to the rise in the number of vehicles, construction activities, brick kilns, cement factories which emit pollutants and significantly pollute the air.
The air pollution affects the health of people and during the past few years the death rate has increased due to people inhaling the polluted air.
Doctors and experts are of the opinion that air pollution can be controlled by using fewer vehicles, decreasing the use of unleaded petrol, decreasing use of biomass fuels and using vented heaters. The air pollution affects every single organ of the body.
Warnings about the ill effects of air pollution need to be taken seriously. People of J&K need to understand that the air pollution has reached the Union Territory also and precautions are needed to keep it under check.
During the past few years air pollution levels have increased in J&K despite the government taking strict action against the industrialists and other people who violate the norms. But more than the government it’s the people who have to understand that they have to take care of their surroundings and environment.
Air pollution spreads like poison and is like a silent killer. People who get infected don’t even realize that the pollution is eating them up. Patients don’t reach the doctor till the damage is done.
The government keeps on organizing plantation drives and people are always reminded that they should plant trees to keep the air fresh. In order to avoid the pollution in city centres the government has turned the busy markets into no-go areas for the vehicles as many studies have pointed out that air pollution spreads like a wild fire in the congested areas.
People need to wake up before the air pollution turns into a monster and starts devouring everyone. It’s high time to pay heed to the advices of the doctors and experts and make every possible attempt to keep our environment green and clean.
