ASCOMS starts Electro-convulsic Treatment Services

JAMMU, Dec 13: Department of Psychiatry, Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital, Sidhra, Jammu has started with providing the Electro-convulsic therapy to the patients of psychiatric ailments. This is for the first time in Jammu region that modified ECT Services have been started wherein the treatment is given under anaesthesia for the comfort of the patient. Dr. Manmeet Singh, Prof & Head, Department of Psychiatry while talking to the Excelsior Correspondent disclosed that this modified ECT is going to help the psychiatric patients of Jammu region in a big way and since we have started this modified plan, this will minimize the outflow of the patients from Jammu region to the other parts of the country.
Giving details of the highly specialized treatment facilities, Dr. Singh said that whole of the procedure should ordinarily be carried out in the presence a Psychiatrist and Anesthetist in the best interest of the patient and the department of Psychiatry is strictly following the National guidelines in the matter.
Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS congratulated the Department of Psychiatry, particularly Dr. Manmeet Singh for taking this initiative to help the patients suffering from Psychiatric ailments. While encouraging the team psychiatry he wished them all the very best and told them that the Administration of the ASCOMS will always be behind any such venture wherein the patients are benefitted to a large extent.
D.K. Batra, Secretary, ASCOMS also expressed his happiness for ASCOMS becoming the first Institute to start this modified ECT. He extended his good wishes to Professor Singh and his team.
