PORT LOUIS (MAURITIUS), Dec 13: Balwant Thakur -The cultural Diplomat of India to Mauritius who is also heading world's biggest cultural Centre as director was honored here today for the successful holding of 'Jashn-E- Dosti' (Festival of Friendship) organized by High commission of India in association with Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage Government of the Republic of Mauritius in commemoration with the celebrations of 75th anniversary of India-Mauritius diplomatic relations. It may be recalled that a 7 day biggest ever India and Mauritius festival of culture featuring over 500 hundred artists was held at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix, Mauritius which was conceptualized, designed and executed by Balwant Thakur. The most noteworthy feature of the festival was that the artists of Mauritius were trained in Indian performance traditions and for the first time each presentation in this 7 day festival witnessed hundreds of Mauritian artists. The festival was inaugurated by his Excellency the President of the Republic of Mauritius Prithivirajsingh Roopun in the gracious presence of Avinash Teeluck Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage and Her Excellency the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius K. Nandini Singla.
The opening event featured 75 musicians showcasing instrumental music of three continents viz. Asia, Africa and Europe in a fusion symphony of musical feats. Presentation by 75 artists together was a compliment to the celebrations of both 75 years of India Independence and 75th anniversary of India- Maturities diplomatic relations. History has never witnessed 75 instrumentalists being played together to the tunes of each other. Interestingly Balwant Thakur's highly acclaimed play 'Aap Humare Hain Kaun' also featured in French, Creole, English and Hindi in this International event. The other highlights of this unique festival featured 'Colors of India', 'Colors of Mauritius' and 'Colors of Bollywood'. On the day of culmination Acting Foreign Minister Hon. Mahen Seeruttun who is also the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance honored Balwant Thakur for bringing two nations together through highly magnificent cultural initiatives. Amidst thunderous applause and standing ovations, the entire festival received huge appreciations and accolades from Mauritian art lovers.
