Officials review counting arrangements at districts

Jammu, Dec 24: The District Election Officer (DEO), Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria convened a meeting of officers here today to review the arrangements for counting of votes of the three Assembly constituencies of the district on December 28.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, Mr. Surinder Gupta, was also present on the occasion.
The arrangements like appointment of counting staff and their training, barricading, drinking water and power supply, communication facilities at the venue of appointment of Micro Observers, issuance of entry passes to counting staff and other security arrangements were reviewed threadbare.
The DEO issued instructions to the counting staff and agents of political parties not to carry with them mobile phones inside the counting halls on the day of counting of votes.
To apprise the people about the latest counting trends and election results of the district, the election result display boards would be put up at prominent places in the city besides a separate Election Media Cell would also be set up at the venue of the counting for the timely dissemination of election results, the meeting decided.
Later, Mr. Khajuria accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur and other district officers had a round of all the counting halls set up at PG Degree Collage for Boys, Udhampur and took stock of arrangements required at the venue. The District Election Officer (DEO), Kishtwar, Mr. Sudarshan Sharma today reviewed the arrangements made for counting of votes at Kendriya Vidyalaya in NHPC Colony at a meeting of counting staff held here today.
The counting of votes for the two Assembly constituencies of Kishtwar and Inderwal of Kishtwar district is being held on December 28.
It was stated that the counting of votes shall start at 9 a. m. The counting trends and leads as well as the final results shall also be displayed on the boards being put up at various places.
Later, the DEO along with the Returning Officers and other district officers inspected the arrangements made at the counting halls for the counting of votes.
Meanwhile, the DEO also convened a meeting of the contesting candidates today. Besides the candidates, the meeting was also attended by the Returning Officers of Kishtwar and Inderwal Assembly constituencies.

The participants were made aware about the guidelines of the ECI regarding the entire counting process.
Meanwhile, for ensuring smooth counting of votes in Kathua district on December 28, the District Election Officer (DEO), Kathua, Ms. Mandeep Kaur convened a meeting of counting staff here today.
The Returning Officers (ROs) and the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) of various Assembly constituencies of the district were among those present on the occasion.
The DEO apprised the counting staff about the counting procedures and other guidelines of the Election Commission of India. She said that checklist of the procedures laid down for counting of votes have been provided to them for the purpose.
The DEO asked the ROs to ensure that all the arrangements for counting of votes are put in place by December 26. She asked the counting staff to ensure their presence at the counting centres for the five Assembly constituencies set up at Government Degree College, Kathua by 8 a. m.
