MCs seek suggestions, objections from public on ODF+ status

JAMMU, Dec 13: Several Municipal Committees of Jammu Division have self-declared as Open Defecation Free plus status after complying with all bye-laws and development done in Municipal limits as per the Swachh Bharat Mission norms.
The Municipal Committees Vijaypur, Surankote, Jourian, Batote, Basohli and Ramgarh after proclaiming ODF Plus status have sought Feedback/suggestions/objections within 15 days to perform all necessary action on the comments/suggestions/objections received.
The Municipal Bodies have also declared Open Defecation, open urination, and unauthorized dumping of sewage in open areas, drains and water bodies as punishable offences. The Civic authorities of these Municipal areas have informed the public that a penalty of INR 200 would be imposed for open defecation, INR 100 for open urination and INR 500 for unauthorized dumping of sewage in open areas, drains and water bodies.
Meanwhile, Vijaypur and Ramgarh MCs have enjoined upon all concerned that a penalty will be imposed for violation of National Sanitation bye laws related to open dumping/desludging of Faecal Sludge in Street/Nallas/Open Drain/Water bodies/open spaces within Municipal Jurisdiction. The violation of National Sanitation bye laws by the Households would attract a fine of Rs. 2000 for 1st offence and Rs 3000 for 2nd offense.
Similarly, Commercial establishments, Offices, Hotels and Private Desludging Operators would be charged Rs. 3000 fine for 1st offence and Rs 5000 for 2nd offense.
Therefore, all individual households/commercial establishments, offices and hotels etc. are accordingly informed to approach Municipal Council Ramban for availing the services for desludging/ clearing of Faecal Sludge from their premises by paying the nominal charges fixed by the Municipality.
