Krishi Vigyan Kendra promotes natural farming

REASI, Dec 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting the natural farming and educating the farmers on natural farming practices. Reasi district of J&K has an immense potential in natural farming and many farmers are showing keen interest in the adoption of natural farming as already they are utilizing most of the inputs for farming from their own fields. According to Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal natural farming is a technique through which farmers can reduce the cost of cultivation and produce the quality and safe food. He informed that natural farming balances the agro-ecological system and can be considered as the future of farming. He said that by the adoption on natural farming farmers can enhance their income and employment with minimum or no input cost. He said that the KVK is creating awareness on natural farming among the farmers and demonstrating the practices in the practices in the formulation of Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya, fermented butter milk and also guiding them on the practices of mulching and Acchadana required for the natural farming. He said that KVK is emphasising on the production of quality and healthy food and this is possible with eco-friendly practices. He said that for a healthy society, healthy food is required and natural farming can play the significant role in the production of quality and safe food. He said that KVK is stressing on Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) for better marketing of agricultural produce.
