SKUAST-J Team conducts 'Village Visit & Revisit' programme at Suchethgarh

JAMMU, Dec 16: Scientists of SKUAST -Jammu under the guidance and dynamic leadership of Prof J.P. Sharma, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu visited border village Suhetgarh in R.S Pura block, of Jammu district under 'Village Visit and Revisit' programme. On the occasion, scientists interacted with farming community and listened to their various problems.
The programme started with a brief introduction of entire team of scientists by Dr Pranav Kumar, Team coordinator and Assistant Professor, F.V.Sc & A.H, R.S Pura. He welcomed all farmers and discussed objectives and background of the programme. The major focus of his discussion was to establish a strong bondage between farming community and scientists of the University. In his address, he advocated on the group approach of farmers by forming Farmer Producer Organisations/ SHG in dairy to solve the problems of low-rate milk procurement in the area. Dr Kumar also discussed at length about various Govt's schemes and outreach programmes of UT Govt. of J &K for the benefits of farming communities.
Dr. S.K Singh, Plant Pathology expert, advised the farmers to about various diseases of wheat, rice and other crops and also answered all the queries of farmers. Dr. P.K Rai, Soil Science expert interacted with farmers and discussed about methods to improve soil fertility. Dr. Rajinder Bhardwaj, expert in Veterinary Medicine advised the farmers to adopt practices of clean and hygienic milk production and also talked about how to improve the productivity of dairy animals by scientific feeding, breeding, housing and health care management. Dr. Susheel Sharma gave lecture on vegetable production, while Dr. Deep ji Bhat expert in fruit science discussed in detail about the management of fruit plants for better yield.
Farmers of the village expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof J. P. Sharma, for initiating such programme for the benefit of farming community. In the end, Swarn Lal, Ex-Sarpanch, Suchetgarh thanked all the team members for their valuable suggestions.
